Most people inside the BayArena could barely believe at full-time that the Werkself had just lost their first Bundesliga game at home in over three months. Their team had just had 71 percent possession and 35 shots but scored only one goal, while Augsburg netted a 97th-minute penalty to snatch a 2-1 win. “Football is brutal sometimes,” head coach Kasper Hjulmand summarised, but he was still able to draw some positives from the way his team played. Defender Jarell Quansah also thanked the fans for their vocal support: “They were incredible today and supported us the entire time.” We round up the game in our Werkself Review.

After a counter-attack, the visitors were awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time that Rieder converted for the final scoreline (90+7’).

Although FC Augsburg have not won in the last five Bundesliga games, they came close to a victory in their recent draw with TSG Hoffenheim. Tenth in the table and with a comfortable lead over the play-off spot, there should be nothing more to worry about in terms of relegation. FCA visit the BayArena this Saturday, 18 April (kick-off: 15:30 CEST). As in the Hinrunde, they are likely to be another tricky opponent. The lowdown on FC Augsburg.
