Bayer 04 signed Mark Flekken from Premier League club FC Brentford in the summer of 2025. The Dutch national goalkeeper signed a contract in Leverkusen until June 30, 2028. Sporting director Simon Rolfes said of the long-time Bundesliga keeper for SC Freiburg when the contract was signed: “Mark Flekken has a wide range of skills that a goalkeeper needs in modern top-flight football. He has strong reflexes, good command of the penalty area, and, at 1.95 meters tall, he has enormous reach. Mark exudes an impressive physical presence, and in terms of footballing ability, he has certainly been one of the best keepers in the Premier League over the past two years.”
