Montrell Culbreath joined the youth team of 1. FC Kaiserslautern, not far from his birthplace Landstuhl, at the age of nine. The attacking player remained with the Red Devils for seven years before moving to Bayer 04 Leverkusen's U17 team. At Werkself, the German youth international, who also has American roots, became a regular on the offensive wing. Culbreath made his professional debut for Bayer 04 in December 2025 away at RB Leipzig, where he promptly scored his first Bundesliga goal.

The Germany U19 team were beaten 2-0 by record champions Spain in the final of the U19 European Championship in Wales. Bayer 04 players Montrell Culbreath and Francis Onyeka (on loan at SV 07 Elversberg) were in the starting line-up and played the full 90 minutes.

The dream of lifting the trophy lives on. The Germany U19s secured a 2-1 win in their semi-final against Ukraine at the U19 European Championship in Wales. Bayer 04 players Montrell Culbreath and Francis Onyeka (on loan at SV 07 Elversberg) were in the starting XI. Culbreath played the full match, Onyeka was substituted shortly after scoring the winner in stoppage time. This means the Leverkusen academy graduate has scored in all five of his recent appearances for the Germany U19s.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen have extended youngster Montrell Culbreath's contract once again. Having only signed a deal with the Bundesliga club until 30 June 2030 in January, still as an U19 player, the attacking midfielder, who's since established himself in the first-team squad, has penned a new contract valid until 30 June 2031. Culbreath joined the Werkself academy in 2023 and made 16 first-team appearances in the 2025/26 season in the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and Champions League, scoring one goal.
