The winger Nathan Tella arrived in the summer of 2023 from the English second division club Southampton and he can be used on both wings as well as a false nine. He has signed a contract with Leverkusen to 2028 and will wear shirt number 23. Managing director sport Simon Rolfes described Tella in the course of the signing as "a fast and goal-getting winger who already has a bit of experience, but still has development potential".

Nathan Tella signs new deal with Bayer 04 to 2031
Bayer 04 Leverkusen have extended the contract with forward Nathan Tella ahead of schedule. The versatile 26-year-old, who can be deployed as a right winger, false nine or left winger, has penned a new contract to 30 June 2031. Tella joined the Werkself from Championship club Southampton in 2023. His previous contract ran to the summer of 2028.

‘I'm very happy to be here’: Tella visits Birkenberg football school
A special visit: Werkself player Nathan Tella was a guest at the local Birkenberg football school on Tuesday afternoon. Bayer 04 and the football school organised by the SportBund Leverkusen, who hold the sessions at the SC Leverkusen training pitches next to the BayArena, enable the children taking part each year to meet one of the Werkself players – this time the double winner and Nigeria international Tella ensured happy faces all round.

A busy day at the BayArena: Xhaka at kids press conference – Tella faces the media
The Easter holidays enticed a large number of Bayer 04 fans to come to the training ground at the BayArena, today Wednesday 16 April, to watch the Werkself at an open training session in the afternoon. Afterwards, the players and head coach Xabi Alonso took time out to sign autographs and pose for photographs. And there was a lot going on besides: While midfield maestro Granit Xhaka fielded questions at an entertaining children's press conference, including the story behind his squad number 34, Nathan Tella faced the media.

Tella: 'I've adopted the position 100%'
In the 3-2 away win at RB Leipzig, Nathan Tella had to come on for his injured teammate Jeremie Frimpong and minutes later he levelled the scores. The winger bagged a brace at SV Darmstadt 98 (2-0) to top off his first start in the Bundesliga. Tella also started in the big match against Bayern Munich (3-0) where he provided an assist. The 24-year-old appears to be up and running and increasingly understanding his role.
