DFB-Pokal
Bayer 04 have reached the final of the domestic cup competition at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin four times. In 1993 the Werkself lifted the trophy after a 1-0 win against the Hertha Berlin Amateurs thanks to a goal from Ulf Kirsten. The other three finals ended in defeat in 2002 against Schalke 04 (2-4), in 2009 against Werder Bremen (0-1) and in 2020 against Bayern Munich (2-4).

Season review, Hinrunde: Strong start – weak finish
There were great celebrations at the end of the season that saw Bayer 04 finish third in the Bundesliga to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League for the thirteenth time. From the Europa League via the derby to the DFB Cup: The Werkself entertain Karlsruher SC in the second round. Bayer 04 head coach Gerardo Seoane accepted the role as favourites ahead of the clash with the second division team on Wednesday, 27 October (kick-off: 18.30 CEST/stadium opens: 16.30 CEST) but he also highlighted the strengths of KSC. There is a question mark over the availability of striker Lucas Alario.
