Bayer 04 has reached the final of the national cup competition in Berlin's Olympic Stadium five times. In 1993, the Werkself won the title with a 1:0 victory against the amateurs of Hertha BSC. In the 2023/24 season, the Werkself lifted the DFB Cup for a second time in the club's history with a 1-0 win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
Bayer 04 were in the Bundesliga title race well into spring and also progressed to the latter stages of the DFB Pokal. Ultimately, the team were unable to defend either title, but the Werkself did set a new Bundesliga record in their final game of the season, having bid an emotional farewell to Xabi Alonso and Jonathan Tah at the BayArena the previous week.
