DFB-Pokal
Bayer 04 have reached the final of the domestic cup competition at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin four times. In 1993 the Werkself lifted the trophy after a 1-0 win against the Hertha Berlin Amateurs thanks to a goal from Ulf Kirsten. The other three finals ended in defeat in 2002 against Schalke 04 (2-4), in 2009 against Werder Bremen (0-1) and in 2020 against Bayern Munich (2-4).

Season review, Part III – First Europe then Bender farewell
Once again, the Werkself have completed an eventful season. The impressive phase on the pitch in 2020 is followed in the New Year by exits from the DFB Cup and the Europa League. Head coach Peter Bosz had to go, a new coaching trio were asked to secure European qualification for Bayer 04 in the remaining eight Bundesliga matchdays. Part three of the 2020/21 season review.

Once again, the Werkself have completed an eventful season. The impressive run in the first third of the season ends with a 2-1 defeat against Bayern Munich just before Christmas. Extra-time exit for Werkself in Essen
Bayer 04 are out of the DFB Cup at the Round of 16 stage. The Werkself were out of luck in the away tie at Rot-Weiss Essen with a 2-1 defeat after extra time. Leon Bailey put Bayer 04 in front (105'), Oguzhan Kefkir (108') and Simon Engelmann (117') turned the game round.
