DFB-Pokal

Bayer 04 have reached the final of the domestic cup competition at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin three times. In 1993 the Werkself won the title with a 1-0 win against the Hertha Berlin second team thanks to a goal from Ulf Kirsten. The other two finals ended in defeat with a 4-2 loss to Schalke in 2002 and a 1-0 against Werder Bremen in 2009.

Cup exit for the Werkself after 2-1 defeat in Heidenheim

Bitter disappointment for Bayer 04 three days after the win against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga: The Werkself lost 2-1 to second division FC Heidenheim in the DFB Cup Round of 16. Julian Brandt gave Leverkusen the lead just before half-time (44') but the hosts turned the game round in the second half with goals from Nikola Dovedan (47') and Maurice Multhaup (72').

Just three days after the brilliant 3-1 win against record champions Bayern Munich, the Werkself are next in action in the idyllic surroundings of Heidenheim. The Peter Bosz team are looking to secure a place in the DFB Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday (5 February, 18.30 CET) away to the second division team from the Swabian Alps. The first half of the season in numbers

The Werkself have played 17 Bundesliga matches in the first half of the 2018/19 season – Bayer 04 are ninth in the table on 24 points with seven wins, three draws and seven defeats. And the Werkself still hold all the cards in the two other competitions: The Round of 32 in the Europa League was reached as group winners and Bayer 04 have progressed through two rounds to the last 16 of the DFB Cup.
