Since promotion to the Bundesliga in 1978/79, Bayer 04 have remained in Germany's top flight. The Werkself have ended the season in second place five times. With the one exception of 2016/17 (12th position), the Black and Reds finished in the top five in the 2010s.

Sub Poku's goal earns 2-1 win at St. Pauli
Bayer 04 made it 36 Bundesliga away games in a row without defeat with a 2-1 victory at FC St. Pauli. Edmond Tapsoba put the Werkself in front (25') but Hauke Wahl levelled for the hosts shortly after. Ernest Poku scored what proved to be the winner moments after coming on (58').

Werkself miss out on first win after 3-3 draw at Werder Bremen
Bayer 04 are still without a win in the Bundesliga after two games following a 3-3 draw away at Werder Bremen. Leverkusen had gone 2-0 up through Patrik Schick and Malik Tillman, before Romano Schmid’s penalty prior to half-time. Schick’s own spot-kick restored the two-goal advantage in the second half as Werder were reduced to 10 men, but Isaac Schmidt got the hosts back into it again before Karim Coulibaly’s added-time equaliser.

Alonso ahead of #M05B04: “Prepare with the same respect”
Bayer 04 close out the 2024/25 season away at Mainz on Saturday (3.30pm CEST) looking to end the campaign on a high. In his final press conference as Leverkusen boss, Xabi Alonso spoke about how he plans to approach the Bundesliga Matchday 34 fixture and also about his time with the Werkself.

Alonso ahead of #B04BVB: Anticipation ahead of top match and last home game
In front of a full house at the BayArena, Borussia Dortmund are the opponents on Bundesliga matchday 33 on Sunday, 11 May (kick-off: 15:30 CEST). For BVB it is about important points in the race for a Champions League spot while the Werkself are looking to maintain the chance of the second best season in the club's history. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, head coach Xabi Alonso talked about the approach to the clash. In addition, the Spaniard officially announced his departure from Bayer 04 at the end of the season.

2-2 in Freiburg – Tah rescues run late on
Bayer 04 have now gone 33 Bundesliga away games in succession without defeat and thereby equalled the record set by Bayern Munich: Jonathan Tah netted the equaliser at 2-2 in added time away to SC Freiburg on his 400th appearance for the Werkself. SCF took a 2-0 lead with a strike from Maximilian Eggestein (44') and a Piero Hincapie own goal (48') before Florian Wirtz pulled a goal back on 82 minutes.
