Since promotion to the Bundesliga in 1978/79, Bayer 04 have remained in Germany's top flight. The Werkself have ended the season in second place five times. With the one exception of 2016/17 (12th position), the Black and Reds finished in the top five in the 2010s.

Late winner from Schick in 2-1 win against TSG
Bayer 04 continue an incredible run with a 2-1 victory over TSG Hoffenheim making it 39 games without defeat this season. Maximilian Beier gave the visitors the lead in the first half (33') but the Werkself turned the game at the BayArena round with late goals from Robert Andrich (88') and Patrik Schick (90+1').

3-2 in Freiburg – Werkself continue to lead the way
Bayer 04 secured a 3-2 win away to SC Freiburg on Bundesliga Matchday 26 and are now unbeaten in 38 games this season. Florian Wirtz (2'), Adam Hlozek (40') and Patrik Schick (53') scored for the Werkself to retain the 10-point lead over Bayern Munich. Ritsu Doan (10') and Yannik Keitel (79') scored for Freiburg.
