USA put up a respectable fight for a long time against one of the potential title contenders in the summer. In the end, however, they suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Portuguese star ensemble, with Malik Tillman, who started again, unable to prevent. Australia, Paraguay and Turkey await the USA in Group D at the World Cup in the summer.
+++ 01/04: Argentina with Palacios beat Zambia +++
The Albiceleste also came out on top in the second match in the international break. After beating Mauritania 2-1, the Argentinians gave their next African opponents from Zambia no chance in a 5-0 victory. Exequiel Palacios did not feature.

+++ 31/03: Schick qualifies for the World Cup with Czechia +++
In a play-off final for the World Cup that was hard to beat in terms of drama, Czechia with Patrik Schick beat Denmark on penalties, just as they had in the previous match against Ireland. With the Leverkusen striker in the starting line-up, Czechia took an early lead but the game in Prague went into extra time after Denmark levelled at 1-1. The hosts made it 2-1 in extra time, but the Danes equalised again. One Denmark player failed beat former Werkself keeper Matej Kovar and two others missed the target. Mexico, South Africa and South Korea await Czechia in the summer.
+++ 31/03: Grimaldo plays full 90 in Spain draw +++
Spain drew 0-0 with Egypt with Manchester City striker Omar Marmoush in their second friendly in the current international break. Bayer 04 player Alejandro Grimaldo played the full 90 minutes for the European champions. Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay await as group opponents at the World Cup this summer.

+++ 31.03.: Flekken remains the Oranje lucky charm +++
Eleven senior international caps - eleven times unbeaten! In his first match for the Netherlands since June last year, Werkself keeper Mark Flekken saw the Oranje take a quick lead (3’) and an equally early red card for his compatriot Denzel Dumfries (12’) before conceding his only goal in the game from the penalty spot (24’). The second half, with Leverkusen double-winner Jeremie Frimpong on the pitch, remained goalless for the final scoreline of 1-1.

+++ 31/03: Maza in Algeria starting eleven - Burkina Faso draw +++
The high-scoring friendly against Guatemala (7-0) was followed by a 0-0 draw for Algeria against Uruguay with Real Madrid star Federico Valverde. Werkself player Ibrahim Maza went off on 79 minutes. The only match left for Algeria before the World Cup finals, where they will face Argentina, Jordan and Austria, is a friendly against the Netherlands at the beginning of June.
Meanwhile, Burkina Faso, with Edmond Tapsoba, followed up their 5-0 win over Guinea-Bissau with a 1-1 draw in their second head-to-head clash. Both goals were scored in the closing stages of the match.
+++ 31/03: Culbreath and Germany U19s secure European Championship ticket +++
The Germany U19 team secured qualification to the European Championship finals in Wales with a 3-2 win against Austria in the top match in qualifying Group 1. With Montrell Culbreath (up to 85 minutes) and loanee Francis Onyeka (up to 59 minutes) in the starting eleven, Germany went 3-0 up after 44 minutes - Onyeka scored one goal and set up another - but Austria managed to make it 3-1 in added time in the first half. Austria's second goal in stoppage time of the second half came too late from their point of view, so that Germany finished top - and they will be in action at the European Championship finals in the UK from the end of June to mid-July. Congratulations!

+++ 31/03: Tape plays full 90 minutes in France U19 draw +++
The French team including Axel Tape held Group 3 leaders Croatia to a 1-1 draw in the U19 European Championship qualifiers. Les Bleus thus remain unbeaten in the third qualifying match of the international break and are second in their group. Tape played the full 90 minutes in central defence, helped his team come from behind and managed to get the draw over the finishing line despite being a man down for around ten minutes.
+++ 31/03: Cameroon with Kofane beat China +++
Cameroon scored twice in the first nine minutes against China, and the two goals were the only ones netted in the match. This was the Africans' first win in their second friendly. Christian Kofane played the whole game in the 1-0 defeat against Australia, but this time he came on as a substitute on 87 minutes.
+++ 30/03: Poku on as a sub - Dutch U21s win against Belgium +++
After a defeat in the first game in the international break, the young Oranje team were able to celebrate at the second attempt. Ernest Poku came on after 67 minutes in the 2-1 win against Belgium and he helped seal the victory.

+++ 28/03: USA with Tillman lose to Belgium +++
At the 70,000-capacity World Cup stadium in Atlanta, Malik Tillman, who was on the pitch up to minute 71, lost the first of two friendlies in the current international breaks playing for the hosts, the USA. The score against Belgium at half-time was 1-1, but the second half saw four more Belgian goals and the final strike from the USA for the final result of a 5-2 defeat for Tillman and Co. Portugal are the next opponents on Tuesday night (CEST), again in Atlanta.
+++ 28/03: Tapsoba and Burkina Faso clock up resounding victory +++
In the first of two meetings with Guinea-Bissau, Burkina Faso secured a runaway 5-0 win at home. Bayer 04 player Edmond Tapsoba was in the starting XI. The second match is on Tuesday.
+++ 28/03: Onyeka secures crucial win for Germany U19s +++
Like the France U19s, Germany's U19 team followed up an opening draw with a win in the European Championship qualifiers. No goals were scored against Greece until Montrell Culbreath came on as a substitute on 63 minutes. In the 84th minute, the Leverkusen player then initiated an attacking move that ended with Werkself loanee Francis Onyeka scoring the only goal of the game - the final score was 1-0. Austria, who are level on points at the top of Group 1, are next up on Tuesday.
+++ 28/03: France U19s with Tape seal important qualifying win +++
The French U19 team secured a 2-1 win against Switzerland on Saturday afternoon after a 2-2 draw against Norway at the start of the European Championship qualifiers. With Axel Tape on the pitch from the 67th minute, Les Bleus held on to their lead, with the Swiss youngsters only able to net a consolation goal shortly before the end of the game. Next up for France on Tuesday are the leaders in Group 3, the as yet unbeaten Croatia.
+++ 28/03: Palacios, Messi and Co. win friendly +++
At home in Buenos Aires, Argentina recorded a narrow friendly victory against Mauritania on Saturday night CEST. With the scoreline at 2-0, Werkself player Exequiel Palacios entered the game in the 76th minute, and the final goal was scored in stoppage time. La Albiceleste will play a second friendly against Zambia on Wednesday night CEST.
+++ 27/03: Grimaldo and Spain defeat Serbia +++
In the style of a candidate for the World Cup title in the summer, Spain showed no weakness in the friendly against Serbia. A brace from Mikel Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad) and a goal from Victor Munoz (CA Osasuna) secured a comfortable 3-0 win - Alejandro Grimaldo did not feature. The Spaniards will continue with their second friendly against Egypt on Monday 30 March.
+++ 27/03: Netherlands with Mark Flekken pass test against Norway +++
The Oranje defeated the Norwegian team 2:1 and thus mastered another real test on the way to the World Cup in the USA. With Mark Flekken in the squad, the Dutch initially fell behind, but turned the game around with goals from Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) and Tijjani Reijnders (Manchester City). On Tuesday, 31 March, the team will face Ecuador in their next test match.

+++ 27/03: Maza’s Algeria beat Guatemala 7-0 +++
The Algeria team with Ibrahim Maza gave Guatemala no chance in their preparations for the World Cup in the summer. In the end, the North African side won 7-0, with six different players scoring. Maza came on as a substitute on 77 minutes and helped to increase the score by another goal. Algeria will face a presumably more difficult opponent in Uruguay in the second friendly in this international break on Tuesday, 31 March.
+++ 27/03: Kofane starts in Cameroon's 1-0 defeat down under +++
In the first of two friendlies for the Cameroon national team, Christian Kofane played the full 90 minutes on the pitch. Nevertheless, the team with the Leverkusen striker narrowly lost 1-0 to Australia, with Feyenoord player Jordan Bos scoring the only goal of the game on 85 minutes. Cameroon's next chance of success will be against China on Tuesday, 31 March.

+++ 27/03: Poku assist - Netherlands U21s narrowly defeated +++
In the European Championship qualifier against Norway, Ernest Poku's Netherlands suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat in the last minute. After trailing at the start, the Oranje turned the game around - partly with the help of Poku making it 2-1 - but conceded two more goals on 77 minutes and in the second minute of added time. It was the only game for the young Dutch side in the current international break.
+++ 26/03: Schick converts two penalties - next opponents Italy +++
Midway through the first half, Czechia and Werkself player Patrik Schick were already 2-0 down in the play-off semi-final against Ireland. However, the Leverkusen forward pulled a goal back from the penalty spot on 27 minutes and then captain Ladislav Krejci (Wolverhampton Wanderers) forced extra time shortly before the end of normal time. There were no more goals so the game went to a penalty shoot-out. Schick was the fourth Czechia penalty taker to keep his cool in the shoot-out - and in the end he and his compatriots progressed to the all-important duel for participation in the World Cup. They will face Denmark, who defeated North Macedonia 4-0, on Tuesday, 31 March (kick-off: 20:45 CEST)

+++ 25/03: Tape plays full game in France U19 draw +++
In Germany's parallel group, the France U19 team faced Norway in their opener. Axel Tape, who played for 90 minutes, and his compatriots were all square at 1-1 at the break. The Scandinavians even took the lead in the second half, before Les Bleus netted a penalty in the closing stages to make the final score 2-2. The tournament continues on Saturday 28 March with a game against Switzerland.
+++ 25/03: Culbreath scores, but Germany U19s miss out on opening win +++
The Germany U19 team could only draw 2-2 with Sweden at the start of the second stage of the European Championship qualifiers. With Montrell Culbreath, from Leverkusen playing the full 90 minutes, Germany took a 1-0 lead at the break. Sweden equalised after the restart before Culbreath put his side back in front on 80 minutes. However, Germany then conceded the final goal in stoppage time. Their next opponents on Saturday 28 March are Greece.

This Sunday will see the end of a special era at Bayer 04 Women: Kristin Kögel will play for the Werkself for the last time in the final match of the season at home to SV Werder Bremen. After six years in Leverkusen, the 26-year-old midfielder will take on a new challenge abroad from the summer.
