“Ernest Poku is an excellent winger who will have a real impact on our attack with his speed and dribbling ability,” said managing director sport Simon Rolfes, commenting on the signing of the winger in the summer of 2025. The Dutchman made his debut for his previous club AZ Alkmaar in 2021 and had become an indispensable first choice in the league, cup, and Europa League by the spring of 2024. During the 2025 U21 European Championship, the lightning-fast Poku's star finally rose. He played in every game and was instrumental in helping the Oranje reach the semi-finals with two goals.
