Werkself review #ASRB04: One foot in the final
Robert Andrich’s brilliant goal in Rome came with the same right foot that he broke exactly a year ago in the same stadium. It was also only the second time Bayer 04 had won an away game in Italy, after victory at Udinese in the UEFA Cup in November 1999. 2-0 in Rome – Werkself impress in semi-final first leg
Bayer 04 put in a highly disciplined performance as they won 2-0 at AS Roma in the UEFA Europa League semi-final first leg. Florian Wirtz (29') and Robert Andrich (74') scored the goals at a sold-out and noisy Stadio Olimpico. The Werkself therefore take a two-goal lead into the return leg at the BayArena next week and remain unbeaten this season after 47 competitive games.

Alonso ahead of #ASRB04: “Second chance” against Roma and their new coach
The Werkself are back in the Eternal City with the UEFA Europa League final once again in their sights. It was a year ago that they lost the semi-final first leg here 1-0 and subsequently missed out on the showpiece. Now Xabi Alonso’s side again face Roma with a chance to put that right, starting with Thursday’s first leg (kick-off at 9pm CEST). Ahead of the game, Alonso and former Roma man Patrik Schick spoke at the press conference about a change of approach and the opposition’s new coach.
