Defender Jarell Quansah has been named in the England squad for the opening matches of the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League. Quansah and his team-mates, who reached the semi-finals at the recent World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada, have been drawn in Group 3 and will face world and European champions Spain in their opening fixture. They will then take on Czechia, Croatia and the Czechia again.
Facts about the UEFA Nations League: As usual, the Nations League consists of a four-tier league system (A to D). Werkself player Quansah is in League A with England, which comprises four groups of four. Of the six group matches, four will be played during this international break, with the remaining two taking place in the next window. Ultimately, the top two teams from each League A group will qualify for next year’s quarter-finals. The two best third-placed teams will remain in League A. The two lowest-ranked third-placed teams and the two best fourth-placed teams will contest play-offs to remain in League A or avoid relegation to League B; their opponents will be the four runners-up from League B. The two lowest-ranked fourth-placed teams in League A will be relegated.
Christian Kofane has been called up to the Cameroon squad. For him and the ‘Lions Indomptables’ (The Indomitable Lions), the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations are about to begin. Cameroon have been drawn in Qualifying Group G alongside the Comoros, the Congo and Namibia. Kofane and his team-mates will face the first two of these sides during this international break. To round off the international break, Cameroon have a friendly with the Ivory Coast.
Facts about the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers: The top two teams from each of the twelve groups will qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The only exception is the groups containing the three host nations (D, H and L). In these groups, only one other team will qualify alongside the host nations.
Facundo Medina has been named in the Argentina squad and for a trio of friendlies with the World Cup runners-up. Their opponents are Bolivia, Burkina Faso and Benin. There are no fewer than four friendlies on the cards for Malik Tillman, who has been called up to the USA squad. He will face Peru, Chile, Mexico and Canada.
