January Goal of the Month: Vilhjalmsdottir nominated

Karolina Lea Vilhjalmsdottir is in the running for the Goal of the Month award for January 2025 on the ARD Sportschau. Werkself fans have until 22 February (19.00 CET) to vote for the leveller at 1-1 scored by the Iceland international for the Bayer 04 Women in the Bundesliga top match at Eintracht Frankfurt (2-3).

Vilhjalmsdottir scored her first goal of the season in the opening game on Matchday 13 in the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga at the Stadion am Brentanobad. After regaining possession in midfield, the 23-year-old curled the ball over the Eintracht keeper Stina Johannes into the top corner of the net from 30 metres out (33').

In addition to Vilhjalmsdottir's strike, the other goals in the vote were scored by Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig), Philipp Hofmann (VfL Bochum), Thijmen Goppel (SV Wehen Wiesbaden) and Leonardo Bittencourt (SV Werder Bremen). HERE is a video of all five goals.

Bayer 04 have now gone 33 Bundesliga away games in succession without defeat and thereby equalled the record set by Bayern Munich: Jonathan Tah netted the equaliser at 2-2 in added time away to SC Freiburg on his 400th appearance for the Werkself. SCF took a 2-0 lead with a strike from Maximilian Eggestein (44') and a Piero Hincapie own goal (48') before Florian Wirtz pulled a goal back on 82 minutes.
