Build-up begins for Hoffenheim fixture

The 3-1 defeat at home to Bayern Munich in the opening fixture of the second half of the Bundesliga campaign is history. By Monday it was time for the Werkself to focus on the forthcoming challenge away to seventh-placed TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday (20 January 2018, 15.30 CET). And it should be a good game with the team from Sinsheim just one point adrift from Bayer 04 in the Bundesliga table.

Following the 1-1 draw with Sportfreunde Lotte on Saturday, the coaching staff led by Heiko Herrlich have organised six training sessions this week. The first four are open before the closed sessions from Thursday for the final run-in to Saturday's league fixture.

As at the start of the season, the week began for Bernd Leno, Kevin Volland and Co. with a detailed video analysis of the matches against FC Bayern and Lotte. Then it was off to the training ground in cold conditions and light rain. In addition to Vlad Yurchchenko, who was working on his comeback from a foot injury on the training ground this morning, Charles Aránguiz and Stefan Kießling were both absent. The pair worked individually at the Werkstatt.

Live Stream ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON

Aránguiz did join his team-mates later on Tuesday morning. However, Stefan Kießling  was unable to take part in the strenuous training session because of a private engagement. He may return for the afternoon session. The 15.30 CET session will be broadcast live on Facebook from 16.00 CET.

New plan for the Bayer 04 Campus: Area reduced by a third, green corridor widened

Bayer 04 has presented the groups on the Monheim council with extensively revised proposals for the planned Campus. As part of constructive discussions, the club presented a plan to the CDU, SPD, Greens, FDP, PETO and the Left Party that envisages a one-third reduction in the area of the site on Alfred-Nobel-Strasse. The distance to neighbours will be increased by almost 60 percent. The green corridor will therefore be significantly larger than previously planned. Here are the main changes.

A thriller without a happy ending: Women exit DFB Pokal in Hamburg

A disappointing Sunday afternoon in the Hanseatic city: The Bayer 04 Women missed out on a place in the DFB Pokal quarter-finals after a penalty shoot-out at Hamburger SV. After more than 120 minutes of play, coach Roberto Pätzold's team lost 4-2 on penalties to the Bundesliga newcomers in front of 3,993 spectators at the Volksparkstadion. Julia Mickenhagen's brilliant strike to level at 1-1 on 73 minutes was not enough for the Werkself in this tie.
