Wirtz is Bayer 04 Player of the Season 2023/24

Up to a few days ago, fans again had the opportunity to vote for the Leverkusen Player of the Season in a vote organised by Bayer 04. This year twice as many supporters took part in the vote compared with last season and there were a larger number of votes than ever before. The vote for Bayer 04 Player of the Season 2023/24 was won by playmaker Florian Wirtz with 42% of the votes cast.

For Wirtz it is the next individual award for the 2023/24 campaign: In addition to his three Player of the Month awards, the Leverkusen star had already earned a place in the Team of the Season 2023/24 organised by EA Sports. Also his solo run in the 2-1 win against SC Freiburg in the autumn of 2023 was voted Goal of the Month for October and Goal of the Year 2023. Following winning the vote as Bundesliga Player of the Season, organised by the German Football League (DFL), Wirtz has now come out on top in the Bayer 04 vote for the best Leverkusen Player of the Season 2023/24.

Wirtz had the most goal involvements of all Werkself players last term. The playmaker provided 20 assists and scored 18 goals – unforgettable in particular is hat-trick in the 5-0 win against Werder Bremen that helped seal the first German league title win for Bayer 04 in the club's history.

Xhaka and Tah complete Top THREE

Granit Xhaka, a new signing last season, was the runner-up. The midfield maestro established himself as a regular starter and a crowd favourite in his first season under the Cross. Central defender Jonathan Tah was in third spot behind Wirtz and Xhaka after standing out all season with his impressive performances at the heart of the Werkself defence.

The top five in the vote:

  1. Florian Wirtz (42,2 %)
  2. Granit Xhaka (36.8 %)
  3. Jonathan Tah (4.7 %)
  4. Robert Andrich (4.1 %)
  5. Alejandro Grimaldo (4 %)
