Arthur Augusto de Matos Soares, known as Arthur, joined Bayer 04 in the summer of 2023. The right-back came from América Mineiro in his home country Brazil on a contract at Leverkusen to 2028. "Arthur brings considerable speed and, above all, footballing finesse to the game. He is agile, has vision in defence and is strong going forwards," explained managing director sport Simon Rolfes at his unveiling. Arthur made his debut for Brazil in the spring of 2023. He won the South American Championship with Brazil U20s shortly before that.

Arthur sidelined by ankle injury
Bayer 04 will have to manage without Brazilian player Arthur for the next few weeks. The full-back tore a ligament in his left ankle in yesterday's Bundesliga match against Mainz 05 (1-1).

Top summer weather for kids to meet Arthur at Bayer 04 Football School
A highlight as ever: In the second week of summer holidays, the many children at the Bayer 04 Football School were able to look forward to meeting another Werkself player. This time it was Arthur who took time out to answer the questions from the inquisitive children and he was happy to pose for selfies and sign autographs.

Arthur: I speak to the physios in German
"Estou aprendendo alemão" or "Ich lerne Deutsch": since his move from his native Brazil to Germany in summer 2023, Arthur has been studiously learning the German language. And it was soon clear to see and hear that the versatile defender, who trained with the team again last week for the first time since recovering from a muscle tendon injury, is not only gifted on the ball. The 20-year-old has also shown himself to be a real talent in German lessons over the past few months.
