Pätzold made one change to his starting XI compared with the 1-0 defeat at TSG Hoffenheim in the middle of February. Loreen Bender returned in place of Karolina Lea Vilhjalmsdottir in attacking midfield.
The Werkself had their first, if slight, chance after just three minutes. The Jena keeper Jasmin Janning did not struggle to hold onto a header from Selina Ostermeier. In spite of their superiority, the Leverkusen players found it difficult to create clear-cut chances. That was in part due to passionate defending by Carl Zeiss Jena.
A set piece gave the hosts their first chance: The ball flew through the six-yard box where keeper Friederike Repohl and Turanyi were not of the same mind in terms of going for the ball. After another attack from the visitors, Jena created the next big chance. An excellent pass from Fiona Gaißer put Melina Reuter through on Repohl. The captain spread herself and Reuter missed the right moment to shoot.
Five minutes before half-time, Janou Levels had an attempt on goal for Leverkusen. Her low shot went just wide of the left-hand post. Bayer 04 upped the pressure with Kristin Kögel popping up twice in the box with the ball at her feet on 42 minutes. But a corner was the maximum return. The two sides went into half-time with the score at 0-0 with the Jena coach Florian Kästner able to be significantly happier than Pätzold.

After half-time it was clear that the Pätzold players had made an agreement with each other at the break. The attacks were more ambitious and Kramer increased her goals return this season to seven on 54 minutes. Bender hit a corner from the left and Kehrer headed the ball on to Kramer. She slotted it into the top left corner of the net.
With 60 minutes on the clock Pätzold brought on Vilhjalmsdottir in place of Bender. Shortly after that, Delice Boboy came on for Kehrer. That substitution paid off three minutes later: A corner from Vilhjalmsdottir found Turanyi and her unstoppable header ended up in the back of the net. Despite the efforts of Jena to pull a goal back, it was the Leverkusen team who had the next chance. Another corner produced a great threat to the goal minded by Janning. Kögel shot, Julevic blocked the ball with her body. The Bayer 04 Women demanded a penalty for handball but the referee Diekmann did not award a spot kick.
The last Leverkusen substitution came on 80 minutes: Ruby Grant came on in place of Kögel and Synne Skinnes Hansen for Estrella Merino Gonzalez. The visitors held on to the two-goal lead to the final whistle.
After a long break, the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga now returns on a weekly basis. The Werkself have their ninth home game of the season next Sunday. The Pätzold team host Werder Bremen at the Ulrich Haberland Stadium. Tickets for the match are available HERE from the Bayer 04 online shop.
