#B04eSports: A meagre haul to kick off Showdown Two

On Tuesday night, the Leverkusen e-sports team played the first three of their six group stage matches in the second round of the 2026/27 VBL Club Championship. They were unable to secure more than a draw in either of their matches against FC Augsburg and VfB Stuttgart. The match against Bayern Munich ended in defeat.

Leverkusen did make a successful start: In the opening match of the online group stage of Showdown Two against FC Augsburg Marc Marc 'MARC_LDW23' Landwehr beat Michael “FCA_MICHI” Zwisler 2–1. However, his cousin Sean 'SEAN_LDW07' Landwehr then lost 1-0 to the 2019 German individual champion, Yannic ‘Yannic0109’ Bederke. That left the aggregate score at 2–2.

Bayer 04 were also unable to secure an overall victory in their subsequent match against VfB Stuttgart. Marc Landwehr drew 2–2 with Denis ‘DENIS’ Müller, and Sean Landwehr drew 3–3 with Dylan ‘DullenMIKE’ Neuhausen, himself the 2022 individual champion.

The third match of the night saw them take on the current German club runners-up, Bayern Munich. Marc Landwehr lost 4-3 to former Bayer 04 team-mate Furkan ‘FURKYPLAYZ’ Kayacik in the opening match. The subsequent 4–4 draw between Sean Landwehr and Koray ‘KKoray_’ Kücükgünar sealed a defeat to round off the day.

Marc and Sean Landwehr now have two points to their name after the first three of a total of six preliminary-round matches. They will definitely need to rack up more points to make it through to the offline round. As usual, only the top 16 in the preliminary round table will qualify for the offline event, which is set to take place in Berlin on 14 November as part of this second Showdown.

In the overall table – which takes into account all points from all online and offline rounds (2 points for each knockout match won) and which will determine qualification for the VBL-CC Finals following the five showdowns – they currently sit in 19th place.
