In the ten years without defeat at the Volkswagen Arena, the Werkself have picked up six wins and three draws. Above all, the Black and Reds have been stable in defence conceding just one goal in the last seven games against the Wolves. A good springboard for head coach Kasper Hjulmand to continue his impressive run since taking over at the Werkself: The Dane has picked up 19 out of a possible 24 points in the Bundesliga; only Jupp Heynckes in 2009 made a better start under the Bayer Cross.
Hjulmand will see some familiar faces at VfL Wolfsburg. No fewer than six VfL players are compatriots of the Werkself coach, including five he knows from his time as the Denmark coach.
In terms of his own squad, the 53-year-old can once again call on Nathan Tella at Wolfsburg , who returns to the Werkself squad for the first time in seven games. Meanwhile, top striker Patrik Schick can set a new record: His 69th Bundesliga goal against FC Heidenheim (6-0) made him Bayer 04's joint highest foreign goalscorer alongside Dimitar Berbatov, and he can now lay the way on his own.
VfL Wolfsburg are looking to turn the corner against Bayer 04. After seven defeats in a row, interrupted by just one win, the club parted company with both coach Paul Simonis and sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz. Daniel Bauer, who was in charge of the Wolves U19 team, has been appointed to get Wolfsburg back to winning ways. To do that, the 43-year-old will have to cope with a shortage of personnel, particularly in defence: In addition to three currently sidelined players, centre-back Moritz Jenz recently suffered a muscle injury. Further information on the Wolves can be found in the lowdown on our next opponents.
This weekend, the whole of German football, from grassroots to the Bundesliga, will be supporting the German bid to host the UEFA Women's EURO 2029 with a matchday of action, which will include a joint photo of the Werkself and VfL Wolfsburg before kick-off.
The host or hosts will be selected at the UEFA Executive Committee meeting on 3 December in Nyon, Switzerland. Other candidates are Denmark and Sweden in tandem plus Poland. The Volkswagen Arena in Wolfsburg will be one of the European Championship venues should Germany be awarded the tournament.
2,100 Bayer 04 fans will follow the Werkself to the Autostadt. There will be a matchday ticket office at the entrance to the Volkswagen Arena from two hours before kick-off for all last-minute supporters.
Although Robert Hartmann has refereed 20 matches involving the Werkself, the last Black and Red defeat with the 46-year-old in charge of proceedings was almost ten years ago. Hartmann’s assistant referees at Wolfsburg are Christian Leicher and Tobias Schultes. The fourth official is Jarno Wienefeld, with Guido Winkmann acting as the VAR.

A bitter end to the fifth showdown of the 2025/26 VBL Club Championship as the #B04eSports team failed to take any points in the three remaining matches of the preliminary online round of the fifth and final showdown, missing out on the offline round. They can no longer take points in the overall table. Bayer 04 slipped out on the top eight, so direct participation in the final event for the German Club Championship is no longer possible, with Bayer 04 having to contest the play-offs.
