Following the nomination of Ibrahim Maza as Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for April, the 20-year-old and team-mate Alejandro Grimaldo are now also among the nominees for the title of Player of the Month for April. Both Werkself players have been on the pitch for the full 90 minutes in each of Leverkusen's three Bundesliga fixtures so far in April. While Algeria international Maza shone as a hard worker and goalscorer in the 6-3 win against VfL Wolfsburg, Spaniard Grimaldo scored twice against the Wolves. He also captained the team last weekend.

In addition to the two Leverkusen players, the other nominees are Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig), Moritz Nicolas (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Patrick Mainka (FC Heidenheim) and Michael Zetterer (Eintracht Frankfurt). The final result is made up as follows: 40 per cent of the weighting is made up of the fans' votes, 30 per cent each by the 18 team captains and a panel of pundits.

Just in time for the start of the school year, everyone was hard at work again at NaturGut Ophoven. For the 21st time, Bayer 04 have supported the annual ‘BioBrotbox’ campaign, which puts together a healthy breakfast for first-year primary school pupils in Leverkusen – and not only contributed 1,904 muesli bars but also plenty of enthusiasm too: Together with the U19 players Burak Kir and Clinton Wilson, Emily Wallrabenstein and Paulina Platner from the Women’s Bundesliga team helped with the packing. The latter was clearly delighted “that Bayer 04 are helping out with regional projects like this and showing their commitment to the local community”.
