Following the nomination of Ibrahim Maza as Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for April, the 20-year-old and team-mate Alejandro Grimaldo are now also among the nominees for the title of Player of the Month for April. Both Werkself players have been on the pitch for the full 90 minutes in each of Leverkusen's three Bundesliga fixtures so far in April. While Algeria international Maza shone as a hard worker and goalscorer in the 6-3 win against VfL Wolfsburg, Spaniard Grimaldo scored twice against the Wolves. He also captained the team last weekend.

In addition to the two Leverkusen players, the other nominees are Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig), Moritz Nicolas (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Patrick Mainka (FC Heidenheim) and Michael Zetterer (Eintracht Frankfurt). The final result is made up as follows: 40 per cent of the weighting is made up of the fans' votes, 30 per cent each by the 18 team captains and a panel of pundits.

The 2-0 defeat away to FC Nürnberg, who were winless before today, represented a setback for coach Roberto Pätzold’s team in the race for the top spots in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga. After six consecutive wins, the Werkself have hit a rough patch: Bayer 04 lost 3-0 away to TSG Hoffenheim. Andrej Kramaric put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot (79'), with Alexander Prass and Max Moerstedt adding to the tally shortly before full-time (89’/90+5’).
