It is matchday 13 in the 1991/92 season. Bayer 04 are away to the reigning champions of Germany FC Kaiserslautern on 12 October. The Werkself are battling to take over top spot in the table in the usual heated atmosphere at the Betzenberg Stadium. The match ended in a 2-1 defeat after Andreas Thom appeared to have made it 2-1 to Bayer 04 in the second half but the strike was ruled out due to handball or offside – the decision was never really explained in full.
Marcus Feinbier was the first player in the history of Bayer 04 to be sent off for two yellow card offences albeit they would probably not have been shown in any of the stadium. And because a match at Kaiserslautern at the start of the 1990s usually lasted as long as it took for the Red Devils to win, the winning goal for the side from the Palatinate came in added time.
