The 22-year-old Colombia international spent last season on loan at Hull City in the English Championship. The English club exercised the agreed purchase option in April and signed him permanently until 2028. However, due to a transfer ban that has since been imposed, Hull City cannot register Puerta, which is why the midfielder returned to Leverkusen.
Puerta was signed by Bayer 04 from Bogota FC in January 2023 and initially loaned to Nürnberg in Bundesliga 2. He made a total of 10 appearances for the Werkself in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Europa League in the 2023/24 season.
