The guests included Bayer 04 managing directors Fernando Carro and Simon Rolfes, Leverkusen's mayor Uwe Richrath, Bayer 04 legend Rüdiger Vollborn, Bayer 04 representative Stefan Kießling, 60 fan clubs and numerous Bayer 04 employees and media representatives.
The event was hosted by Tom Bartels. In conversation with the sports commentator, director Björn Tanneberger from Warner and Andreas Hartmann, head of content at Amazon Prime Video, provided fascinating insights into the production process. The Bayer 04 management also had their say. Carro revealed: “I only landed back from New York at 5.30am yesterday, but I didn't want to miss the event here. We were also already able to show a few clips during our trophy tour in New York City, and the fans there also thought it was sensational!”
Holger Tromp, director of communications, added: “I would like to thank Simon and Fernando for putting their trust in my team and colleagues at Warner and Amazon Prime Video to realise this documentary in this form. It all ran alongside our day-to-day business and took a lot of energy. But it was worth it, because a documentary always has something lasting about it and at some point it was clear to us: if not now, then when?”
In four episodes, the documentary shows the Werkself’s path to the first league title in the club's history and the DFB Pokal victory in the past historic double season. Episodes one and four of the documentary were shown at the event. The anticipation and excitement was clearly palpable in the hall, with the audience applauding the many moments shown and the odd tear being shed, so that everyone left the hall moved at the end.
Afterwards, those present rounded off the emotional evening with snacks and drinks. Vollborn concluded: “What’s captured here in an impressive way is for eternity. I’ll watch it many times in the years to come, because this team has fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine.”
All four episodes of ‘BAYER LEVERKUSEN - A DREAM COMES TRUE’ are now available to watch on Amazon Prime Video
