Bayer 04 face RC Lens in friendly

The champions of Germany and DFB Pokal winners Bayer 04 Leverkusen will play top French side RC Lens at the end of the summer training camp (28 July to 2 August in Donaueschingen). The match is on Saturday 3 August with the kick-off at 16.00 CEST.

The team led by head coach Xabi Alonso will set off for northern France immediately after leaving Der Öschberghof hotel in the Black Forest. The match against the team that finished seventh in Ligue 1 last term will be played at the atmospheric Bollaert Delelis Stadium and a full house of 38,000 fans is expected. Bayer 04 will head home to Leverkusen after the game rounding off seven intensive days in training.
 
The first friendly in the pre-season is against third division Rot-Weiss Essen on 26 July at 19.00 CEST. The DFL Supercup match against runners-up VfB Stuttgart was confirmed for 17 August yesterday. The clash at the BayArena kicks-off at 20.30 CEST. Information on ticketing for this game will announced here. Bayer 04 open the new 2024/25 Bundesliga season as reigning champions on Friday 23 August. The fixture list will probably be announced on 4 July.

It started with goalkeeper Charlotte Voll being shown a red card in the first minute of the game, and following a further sending-off, coach Roberto Pätzold's 9-women side ended up losing 5-1 to last season's runners-up. At 18.30 CET on Sunday, they'll have the chance to exact revenge at the AOK Stadium - and pick up valuable points in the race for third place.

Werkself held to 1-1 draw by Bayern in eventful encounter

Bayer 04 were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Bayern Munich in an eventful Matchday 26 fixture in the Bundesliga. Aleix Garcia had given the Werkself the lead inside six minutes, but Bayern levelled in the second half through Luis Diaz, despite Nicolas Jackson having been send off before the break. Diaz was then dismissed himself as Leverkusen pushed for a winner, which failed to materialise as Jonas Hofmann saw a late goal ruled out.
