A week ago, the video games manufacturer Electronic Arts (EA) together with the German Football League (DFL) announced the six nominations for the vote for Bundesliga Player of the Month for January 2025. Florian Wirtz was joined on the list of nominees by Willi Orban and Xavi Simons (both RB Leipzig), Joshua Kimmich and Michael Olise (both Bayern Munich) plus Romano Schmid (Werder Bremen).
In January, Wirtz scored two goals and provided three assists in four Bundesliga matches (three wins, one draw). In the 3-1 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 18, the 21 year-old netted a brace and set up one goal and he provided the two assists for the Leverkusen goals in the 2-2 draw at RB Leipzig. Wirtz – together with Omar Marmoush, now at Manchester City – is the best provider in the Bundesliga with nine assists so far.
