Alejandro Grimaldo moved from Benfica to Bayer 04 on a free transfer in the summer of 2023. The Spanish left-back played for the Portuguese top club from 2016 onwards, in Leverkusen he signed a contract valid until 2027. "Alejandro Grimaldo is an agile, very skilful full-back, tactically very adept. He is capable of scoring goals and has a lot of experience and class," said Bayer 04 Sport managing director Simon Rolfes about the new signing on sealing the deal.
