Only completed application forms will be considered. Trials will not take place without the due endorsement of the club.the child is registered with. Requests for trails for underage children have to made by the legal guardians.

Bayer 04 launched Women's football at the club on 1 July 2008 when they took over the Women's football section atTuS Köln rrh. The roots do however go further back: SSG 09 Bergisch Gladbach were at the start of the new Bayer 04 football section. The Women's team captured the attention of the German public in the 1970s and 1980s and they dominated German women's football – between 1977 and 1989 they were crowned champions of Germany nine times and won the DFB Pokal three times. Bergisch Gladbach was one of the founding members of the Women's Bundesliga in 1990. But the club went downhill in the following years. The team were not only relegated from the top-flight in 1994 but the whole section moved over to TuS Köln rrh. 1874.   

After another relegation from the then second-tier Regional League West in 1999, immediate promotion back followed and qualification for the newly introduced Bundesliga 2 in the 2002/04 season, which was not accepted due to organisational reasons. They were promoted to the second division a season later as champions. In spite of success on the pitch, TuS Köln rrh. failed in their search for a sponsor in 2008 and thereby also the desired promotion to the Bundesliga. Bayer 04 expressed interest in setting up a Women's football section at that point – so both matters were resolved together: The Women's football section at TuS Köln was dissolved in June 2008 and they moved en masse under the Bayer Cross on 1 July. From 2010 to 2017 and again since the 2018/19 season, the first team have been in the top-flight. The Bayer 04 Women's team finished fifth in 2020/21 to achieve the highest ranking in the club's history. Four years later, the team topped this result again with head coach Roberto Pätzold: With 13 wins and 43 points, the Werkself finished the 2024/25 season in fourth place.
