Wamser came off the bench on 40 minutes to replace the injured captain Giulia Gwinn who left the pitch in tears due to a knee injury. Without time to settle in, the Leverkusen player, signed in the summer from Eintracht Frankfurt, filled in at right-back, gave little away and was constantly evolved in attacks. She provided the assist for a wonder goal from Jule Brand (52') to give Germany the lead and also the penultimate pass for the second goal scored by Lea Schüller (66’).
Wamser not only received appreciation from Germany coach Christian Wück ("I'm 100% happy") but also from goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger ("she did a brilliant job") and forward Laura Freigang ("Carlotta is just an incredible bundle of energy on the pitch"). In an interview with ARD, Wamser talked about a "very good" second half and said: "Of course, you don't like coming on when a teammate’s injured. I tried to make the best of it and I'm very happy about the first three important points."
Wamser is set to face Leverkusen teammate Cornelia Kramer in the second group match on Tuesday, 8 July (18:00 CEST) in Basel. The striker, also at her first tournament, did not play in Denmark's opening 1-0 defeat against Scandinavian neighbours Sweden. The full Euro timetable for the Werkself duo is HERE.
