Martínez ahead of the clash in Crete: We need to play our own game and pick up all three points

“We know what to expect: a team with a clear game plan and a lot of confidence” Carles Martínez stressed at the outset, referring to the 2–0 opening-day win against TSG Hoffenheim and the narrow 2–1 defeat to top French side Stade Rennes. The Spaniard continued: "We'll be on our guard, but overall we're focusing more on ourselves and our game plan. If we manage to play the way we did last time out, I’m sure we’ll pick up the points."

One player who came up during Wednesday evening’s press conference was Jonas Hofmann. The 34-year-old was drafted in yesterday after Martin Terrier picked up an injury. Martínez: “With Martin out, we’re missing a versatile player in attack. That's where Jonas comes in. We have a lot of matches in quick succession and he’s a terrific player who can help us in various positions. He loves football; he loves training. Jonas gives his all in every training session and every match, making the most of the space available. He’s here, and he'll help us with his game and his attitude.”

Defender Jarell Quansah believes the Werkself are “in good form. We’re definitely aiming for the three points tomorrow as well as continuing our run of form – even though we know we’ve got a tricky task ahead of us.”

When asked about the team’s resurgence and their recent run of five consecutive wins, the England international said: “I can, of course, speak primarily about our defence: we simply defend very well as a team. We have a lot of leadership in the back line and are just gelling better and better. Something is taking shape – you can really feel it.”
