Hjulmand ahead of #SGEB04: ‘Build on our good performances’

After back-to-back wins at home, Bayer 04 are now out for their first away win of 2026 as they visit Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday (15:30 CET). Ahead of the Matchday 20 fixture in the Bundesliga, Kasper Hjulmand spoke about renewed confidence, Frankfurt’s recent issues and Patrik Schick’s form so far this year.

Yes, I'd like to see videos dispalyed.

“It’s always difficult against Frankfurt, especially in Frankfurt,” Hjulmand emphasised at the start of his press conference on Friday. “Both wins lately have been very good for us. They were very important. Now we’ve got another important game ahead of us. We’re going there to build on our good performances and to bring a win back to Leverkusen.” Victory in Frankfurt would take Leverkusen eight points ahead of their opponent, with a game in hand as well.

“Focus on our football and performance”

Eintracht are without a win in seven games across all competitions. Dennis Schmitt has been in charge since the dismissal of Dino Toppmöller in the middle of January. “It doesn’t many anything more difficult or easier. It’s the same,” Hjulmand explained. “You never know how a match will go, so our focus is fully on our game, our football and our performance.”

Tapsoba and Palacios “ready for more minutes”

Asked about Edmond Tapsoba and Exequiel Palacios and their search for full fitness, Hjulmand added, “Eddy is a player with great experience, good passing and good presence in both boxes. He and Pala are both ready for more minutes. There’s lots of chances for that in the coming weeks.”

Schick was also the topic of discussion from the media, with the Dane saying of his Czech striker, “He may not have scored this year, but he’s performed well. He was very important in our play. The goals will come, for sure.” Will he now break his 2026 duck in Frankfurt?

'Match them as equals when it's 11 vs. 11': Women out for revenge at Wolfsburg for reverse fixture defeat

The Bundesliga home game against VfL Wolfsburg in the first half of the season was one of those classic ‘days to forget’ for Bayer 04 Women. It started with goalkeeper Charlotte Voll being shown a red card in the first minute of the game, and following a further sending-off, coach Roberto Pätzold's 9-women side ended up losing 5-1 to last season's runners-up. At 18.30 CET on Sunday, they'll have the chance to exact revenge at the AOK Stadium - and pick up valuable points in the race for third place.

Werkself Review #B04FCB: 'Played with structure, passion and power'

After full time in the 1-1 draw against FC Bayern Munich, the Bayer 04 fans first had to catch their breath. Firstly because of their usual loud support, and secondly because of the great drama they'd witnessed on the pitch: three disallowed goals, two red cards and a Werkself side who "again produced a very good performance against strong opponents", as head coach Kasper Hjulmand described. The Dane was particularly enthused by the performance of young Montrell Culbreath, while Patrik Schick got to enjoy his 200th appearance under the Cross. The Werkself Review unpacks the action.

Werkself held to 1-1 draw by Bayern in eventful encounter

Bayer 04 were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Bayern Munich in an eventful Matchday 26 fixture in the Bundesliga. Aleix Garcia had given the Werkself the lead inside six minutes, but Bayern levelled in the second half through Luis Diaz, despite Nicolas Jackson having been send off before the break. Diaz was then dismissed himself as Leverkusen pushed for a winner, which failed to materialise as Jonas Hofmann saw a late goal ruled out.
