The visit of the Bayer 04 delegation led by Paulo Sergio to the green mining recycling plant in São Paulo was part of the Trophy Tour on Wednesday, 30 November, with the official start to the joint project.
Matthias Adler, head of fans and sustainability at Bayer 04: "The subject of waste was one of the top issues in our analysis of significant sustainability topics. Of course, the focus on our efforts is making our immediate business activities in Leverkusen produce the least possible waste and maximise recycling. As an internationally active club we see the partnership with Plastiks creating the opportunity to raise the awareness of separating reusable materials and recycling worldwide, and at the same time, doing something to the benefit of the environment and the people in São Paulo."
The local green mining organisation has been active in support of recycling materials since 2017. They not only collect around 40 tons of plastic waste per month but also place great value on decent working conditions and fair pay for the local people and doing educational work in situ. Bayer 04 is supporting the construction of a recycling plant financially with the target of collecting and recycling 100,000 kilogrammes of plastic waste (that is the equivalent of approximately 2.9 million 1.5 litre plastic bottles).
André Vanyi-Robin, CEO at Plastiks: "Here at Plastiks, we are proud to be working together with Bayer 04 Leverkusen to recover and recycle plastic waste from the environment, which we can verify through our block chain technology and make it traceable. This partnership not only strengthens the commitment to sustainable consumption but also represents a next step to a responsible future in the sports industry where we can give plastic waste a second life."

At the Bayer 04 fan shop, part of the sale of three sustainable articles (hoodies, balls, boards) will go to the project. Bayer 04 fans can also get involved with the project via direct donations to Plastiks.
How many kilogrammes of waste have already been collected by Plastiks can be seen at any time at bayer04.de.

A fresh look for the BayArena: The Bayer 04 stadium will have new seating in the form of folding seats for the 2026/27 campaign that will ensure significantly improved seating comfort and simplified movement within the rows of seats. As part of routine replacement after 17 years, fans of the Werkself were able to purchase the existing seats, used to witness the first German league title in the club's history. In addition, a large proportion of the seats will be donated to charitable projects, primarily in the local region. Bayer 04 fans can look forward to new, functional folding seats for the season opener at the beginning of August - still in the club colours of black and red, of course.
