This competition consists of three phases: the VBL Open, the VBL Open Play-offs and the final main event, the VBL Grand Final. The VBL Open represents the qualifying opportunity for all amateur players. Those who come out on top in this phase will face a number of eSports professional players in the subsequent VBL Open play-offs after the VBL Club Championship. The play-offs will be played for a place in the Grand Final.
Ten more professional eSports players are already waiting in the Grand Final. The clubs that have won a showdown are allowed to nominate two players who will go straight through to the Grand Final and can skip the play-off round. Leverkusen's victory in showdown one in Leipzig means that Marc and Sean Landwehr have already secured their place in the Grand Final.
