
Der Cheftrainer erinnerte sich aus den Spielen in St. Petersburg und Minsk noch gut an den Fanclub „Russische Pillendreher“, der Bayer 04 stets aus der Ferne die Daumen drückt und bei Begegnungen in Osteuropa immer dabei ist.
Schmidt nahm sich zusammen mit Kevin Kampl und Julian Brandt nach dem Abendessen eine gute halbe Stunde für einen netten Plausch mit den jungen Anhängern, die ihre Idole nur sehr selten zu Gesicht bekommen. Dass das Treffen dann gleich so vertraut ablief, überraschte Andrey, den Gründer der „Pillendreher“, umso mehr. „Ich war wirklich baff“, sagte er und ergänzte mit einem Lächeln: „Wahrscheinlich kann ich jetzt ein ganzes Buch schreiben.“
Fanclub in Osteuropa
In seiner Freizeit übersetzt Andrey Berichte über Bayer 04 ins Russische und postet sie in Foren und Sozialen Netzwerken. So hat sich über die Jahre eine echte Bayer 04-Gemeinschaft im russischsprachigen Raum entwickelt, die sich dann zu einem Fanclub zusammengeschlossen hat. Die „Russischen Pillendreher“ waren geboren. Klar, dass das Herz jedes einzelnen höher schlug, als der ZSKA Moskau aus dem Lostopf gezogen wurde und klar war, dass die Werkself wieder in ihre Nähe kommt. „Das war der pure Glücksmoment“, sagt Andrey.
Mitgebracht hatten er und die anderen auch kleine Präsente für den Cheftrainer und seine zwei Akteure, die dankten es und signierten nach den anregenden Gesprächen auf Englisch zahlreiche Schals und Trikots und lächelten für Selfies in die Kamera. „Das werde ich so schnell nicht vergessen“, sagte Andrey, ehe er sich mit seinen Freunden wieder auf den Heimweg in die Kälte Moskaus machte. Doch am nächsten Abend steht schon ein weiteres Highlight an: Einige Fanclub-Mitglieder sehen ihr Lieblingsteam dann zum ersten Mal überhaupt spielen.

Paulo Sergio and Bayer 04 have enjoyed close ties since the Werkself training camp in his native Brazil last summer. The club legend is in charge of the Bayer 04 Soccer Academy, which opened in the summer of 2025, and he has also been at this year’s training camp in the Weimarer Land. As well as interacting with the many fans who travelled to the camp, the 1994 World Cup winner used the time to plan the next steps for the Academy together with club officials. In an interview with bayer04.de, Sergio spoke about the project’s future development, the upcoming visit by young Academy players to Leverkusen, and plans for the coming months in Germany and Brazil.
