"We’re delighted to welcome MG Motor, a strong brand from the automotive industry, to the sponsors' club. Bayer 04 and MG Motor are constantly developing new, progressive approaches in their own market environment in order to be able to act and be fit for the future," says Markus Breglec, chief marketing and innovation officer. "The attitude towards innovation and sustainability strengthens our mutual trust and the endeavour to fill the partnership with life."
Philipp Hempel, vice-president sales at MG Motor Germany, also sees great future opportunities in the connection with the Werkself: "Bayer 04 Leverkusen and MG Motor Germany are partners who, in my view, fit together extremely well," says Hempel. "Both are at the forefront, both have innovative ideas. For us, one of these is electromobility, and the people in charge at Bayer 04 Leverkusen will be able to see for themselves how well it works in everyday life at the start of the second half of the season. We are looking forward to working together."
Bayer 04 Leverkusen will be celebrating its 120th anniversary in 2024, and MG Motor will also be 100 years old. Reason enough to celebrate together in the form of an official partnership. MG Motor's contractual rights include integration into the TV-relevant LED perimeter advertising at matches at the BayArena. Promotion rights for vehicle displays will also be realised there as part of Bundesliga home matches. In addition, MG Motor receives hospitality services from Bayer 04 with access to VIP tickets.

About MG Motor Europe:
Visionary mobility for all - the MG brand has always stood for technologically sophisticated and modernly designed vehicles that offer a glimpse into the future while always remaining approachable. MG Motor has set itself the goal of making electric mobility accessible to everyone who wants to lead a sustainable lifestyle. With the electric models MG Marvel R Electric, MG4 Electric and MG5 Electric, MG Motor is already firmly established on the roads across Germany - 21,232 new vehicle registrations in 2023 alone speak for themselves.
MG once stood for open-top, two-seater sports cars like almost no other brand. From the 1920s onwards, the Morris Garages defined the concept and style of this type of vehicle, made it suitable for the masses and were always one step ahead of the competition with pioneering developments.

Standing on the pitch where the Werkself players perform - for many Bayer 04 club members, this wish became reality at this year's Members' kickabout. Around 400 active participants of all ages took the opportunity to experience the BayArena from a new and special perspective. And there was also plenty going on in the stands: The event attracted more than 1,000 visitors in total and provided an atmospheric end to the season.

Lying third in the Bundesliga, the Werkself made a faltering start in 2026 after the winter break, but gradually rediscovered winning ways and, as in the previous campaign, were among the top 16 in Europe and the top four in the DFB Pokal. In the Bundesliga, the Werkself also remained in the race for Champions League qualification right to the end. However, because setbacks repeatedly crept into the Werkself's performances between good displays and crucial games, it was not quite enough to secure a UCL spot in the end. A season with many ups and downs brought sixth place and qualification for the UEFA Europa League. Part II of the review of the 2025/26 season.

Following the final match of the 2025/26 season, the prevailing feeling was naturally one of disappointment after missing out on qualification for the Champions League. The Werkself finished the Bundesliga in sixth place, meaning they'll start the 2026/27 campaign in the Europa League. "But to talk negatively about everything now because of that would be wrong," stressed captain Robert Andrich following the final game, knowing that the past year at Bayer 04 was marked, more than almost any other, by the start of a new era and the courage to change – and in particular, the belief in a positive direction. Everyone was aware this process would need time. The first part of the 2025/26 season review.
