Experienced referee Deniz Aytekin is the man in the middle today. The 43-year-old officiated for the first time in the Bundesliga in 2008 and has been a FIFA referee since 2011. This season, Aytekin refereed the 4-0 home win for the Werkself against Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday two. A Leverkusen DFB Cup winner of 1993 today celebrates his 50th birthday: Mario Tolkmitt won the cup in his first season with the Werkself. The midfielder from Berlin stayed for four and a half years before moving on to Fortuna Düsseldorf. Tolkmitt retired from football in the summer of 1998. Bayer 04 send birthday greetings.
An important victory in an emotional, hard-fought away match: Bayer 04 claimed a 4-3 win at 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Bundesliga Matchday 7.
