Aytekin refs

Experienced referee Deniz Aytekin is the man in the middle today. The 43-year-old officiated for the first time in the Bundesliga in 2008 and has been a FIFA referee since 2011. This season, Aytekin refereed the 4-0 home win for the Werkself against Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday two. His assistants this time are Christian Dietz and Markus Sinn, Florian Badstübner is the fourth official. Have a good game!

Florian Wirtz and Co. have shown an extreme desire to score goals in the Bundesliga campaign to date as the numbers show: The Werkself players have found the back of the net 23 times so far – there have only been more goals in the club's history after nine games in 1996 – 97 (24).

It could continue against Wolfsburg if you look at the previous encounters with VfL: There has been an average of 3.38 goals per game in matches between the Wolves and the Werkself. The Black and Reds have won 22 of the 48 Bundesliga matches between the two teams (8 draws).

charity match and womens derby

While the coaches talk to their teams at half-time there will be two interviews on the touchline. Bayer 04 legend Peter Hermann and Stefan Müller, coach of SV Schlebusch, will talk to presenter Tobias Ufer about the Werkself benefit match against a City of Leverkusen team to raise funds for victims of the flooding disaster. The charity match will be played at the Ulrich Haberland Stadium on 10 November. Tickets are available HERE.

After a short break, there will be a conversation with Anna Klink, Kristin Kögel and Verena Wieder of the Werkself Women's team. The trio will talk to presenter Pitti Dahl about the home derby against FC Köln at the Ulrich Haberland Stadium on Sunday 7 November (kick-off: 00 CET). The team under head coach Achim Feifel invite Bayer 04 fans to the game free of charge.

Seoane celebrates birthday

A first birthday under the Bayer Cross: Bayer 04 head coach Gerardo Seoane celebrates his 43rd birthday today. The Lucerne-born coach has been at Leverkusen since the start of the season. His record to date in 14 games: eight wins plus three draws and three defeats – that's an impressive average of 1.93 points per game. Many happy returns, Gerry!

A Leverkusen DFB Cup winner of 1993 today celebrates his 50th birthday: Mario Tolkmitt won the cup in his first season with the Werkself. The midfielder from Berlin stayed for four and a half years before moving on to Fortuna Düsseldorf. Tolkmitt retired from football in the summer of 1998. Bayer 04 send birthday greetings.

Return from Salzburg: Bayer 04 sign forward Kerim Alajbegovic

Bayer 04 Leverkusen are bringing back Kerim Alajbegovic, who joined Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2025. The Bundesliga club activated the buy-back option in the contract with the Bosnia international, who has enjoyed great success at the Austrian top-flight club since the start of the current season. Alajbegovic moved to Salzburg from the Leverkusen U19s last year. The 1.86-metre forward has signed a five-year contract at Leverkusen with a start date of 1 July 2026.

Nathan Tella signs new deal with Bayer 04 to 2031

Bayer 04 Leverkusen have extended the contract with forward Nathan Tella ahead of schedule. The versatile 26-year-old, who can be deployed as a right winger, false nine or left winger, has penned a new contract to 30 June 2031. Tella joined the Werkself from Championship club Southampton in 2023. His previous contract ran to the summer of 2028.
