It’s been quite a while since the Werkself were beaten by Gladbach – 12 meetings in fact. Games away at Borussia-Park in particular have been fruitful for Leverkusen, winning the last six there for the club’s longest winning run away at an opponent since promotion to the Bundesliga. It took a Florian Wirtz rebound from a penalty deep into added time to win it on the opening night of last season, after Jonas Omlin – now of Bayer 04 – saved the initial attempt.
Kasper Hjulmand’s side also have the chance to make it five wins in a row across all competitions for the first time this season. Malik Tillman in particular has been in good form, scoring three times in the last two games. He also netted in the reverse fixture back in September.
The Foals actually made a perfect start to 2026, beating Augsburg 4-0, but they’ve since managed only two draws from four games, leaving them only three points outside the bottom three coming into Matchday 21. Eugen Polanski’s team played alright in their 1-1 draw against Werder Bremen last time out, but again they were reliant on Haris Tabakovic. His 10 goals account for almost half of Borussia’s total of 24 this season, with the long-term absence of captain Tim Kleindienst having a big impact. Goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas has also been crucial at the other end of the pitch and sits third in the Bundesliga for clean sheets. You can read much more about our opponents in our profile piece here.

The Werkself can count on the support of around 3,150 away supporters making the short trip to Mönchengladbach.
The German FA (DFB) have appointed Christian Dinger to oversee Saturday’s fixture. It’s his 22nd involving Leverkusen, which includes the 3-0 win in Mönchengladbach in August 2023. The 45-year-old also took charge of the Werkself’s 2-0 win over Union Berlin earlier this season. His assistants are Benedikt Kempkes and Nikolai Kimmeyer. The VAR is Daniel Schlager.

The Werkself kicked off the final international break of the current season on Monday morning with the first of three open training sessions this week. While eleven Bayer 04 players will be away on international duty in the coming days, the other players will be working together in Leverkusen. The next challenge in the Bundesliga awaits on Saturday, 4 April (kick-off: 15:30 CEST) with the home game against VfL Wolfsburg.
