Schick undergoes op – Werkself quintet work on comeback

While most of the Bayer 04 players begin the preseason for the 2023/24 campaign on Tuesday morning, a Werkself quintet are working hard to get back on the pitch. That is the situation for Patrik Schick, Robert Andrich, Odilon Kossounou, Piero Hincapie and Niklas Lomb.

Patrik Schick underwent a successful groin operation at the Charité Hospital in Berlin in June and he has already started his rehab. The 27-year-old striker is expected to return at the beginning of October. Schick's last game for the Werkself was at the beginning of March.

Robert Andrich has already been in rehab in the Werkstatt at the BayArena for several weeks and he also worked on his comeback during his holiday. The midfielder suffered a fractured metatarsal in his left foot during the run-in at the end of last season. The 28-year-old is set to return to full training at the forthcoming Werkself training camp in Saalfelden in Austria (23-28 July).

Odilon Kossounou, who suffered a muscle injury in the run-in at the end of last season, will soon return to full training.

Piero Hincapie is also working on his return to action in rehab. The Ecuador international suffered a fractured metatarsal in his right foot in the international fixture against Bolivia in the middle of June and he underwent an operation in the same month. The 21-year-old is expected to be back on the pitch at the beginning of September.

Niklas Lomb is suffering from a torn calf muscle. The keeper is expected to be sidelined for between four and six weeks.
