Eintracht Frankfurt are in the last four of the UEFA Europa League thanks to a 3-2 win away to Barcelona in the second leg of the quarter-finals. As the Eagles are playing West Ham United in the semi-final first leg on Thursday 28 April, the Bundesliga match at Bayer 04 will not be played the following day. Instead the date originally set by the DFL remains: Monday 2 May at 20.30 CEST at the BayArena. The match is the penultimate home game for the Black and Reds in the current season.

Rudi Völler is handing over the post of Leverkusen sporting managing director at the end of the season to sporting director Simon Rolfes but he will be working as a member of the shareholders committee and as a Bayer 04 ambassador from the summer. Wolf and Lucic: Double birthday greetings

Bayer 04 congratulates Hannes Wolf and Teddy Lucic on Good Friday. Wolf was appointed caretaker manager at the Werkself in March of last year. The now 41-year-old coach temporarily gave up his post as Germany U18 coach and in Wolf's eight games in charge in the Bundesliga, Bayer 04 picked up an average of 1.5 points per game – and qualified for the Europa League. The coach then returned to the DFB as agreed and Bayer 04 Leverkusen brought in the current head coach Gerardo Seoane. Many happy returns and much success with the Germany U19s, Hannes.

Lucic, the second birthday boy with a Black and Red past, moved under the Bayer Cross as a player in the summer of 2003. The central defender came from AIK Solna from his home country Sweden and in the following 18 months Lucic made 11 Bundesliga appearances for the Werkself. The former Leverkusen player ended his playing career in Sweden in 2010. Many happy returns to you too on your 49th birthday.

Season review 2025/26, part II: Highs and lows of an eventful season

Lying third in the Bundesliga, the Werkself made a faltering start in 2026 after the winter break, but gradually rediscovered winning ways and, as in the previous campaign, were among the top 16 in Europe and the top four in the DFB Pokal. In the Bundesliga, the Werkself also remained in the race for Champions League qualification right to the end. However, because setbacks repeatedly crept into the Werkself's performances between good displays and crucial games, it was not quite enough to secure a UCL spot in the end. A season with many ups and downs brought sixth place and qualification for the UEFA Europa League. Part II of the review of the 2025/26 season.

2025/26 season review, part I: Upheaval, change, euphoria

Following the final match of the 2025/26 season, the prevailing feeling was naturally one of disappointment after missing out on qualification for the Champions League. The Werkself finished the Bundesliga in sixth place, meaning they'll start the 2026/27 campaign in the Europa League. "But to talk negatively about everything now because of that would be wrong," stressed captain Robert Andrich following the final game, knowing that the past year at Bayer 04 was marked, more than almost any other, by the start of a new era and the courage to change – and in particular, the belief in a positive direction. Everyone was aware this process would need time. The first part of the 2025/26 season review.
