Bayer 04 have won all of the last six games against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Since promotion to the Bundesliga in 1979, the Werkself have not scored more goals against any other club in the Bundesliga than against the Foals.
Moreover: If the team under head coach Xabi Alonso take the lead tonight then the stats suggest the Black and Reds will get a result. The Werkself have not dropped a single point in the Rückrunde in this Bundesliga campaign after going ahead. Three points are the goal here to cement sixth place.
Daniel Farke was not the only one to do some straight talking after last weekend’s 5-2 defeat at Borussia Dortmund. Mönchengladbach’s coach criticised the “sluggish challenges” made by his team. Jonas Hofmann talked about “easily losing possession and making wrong decisions”, Julian Weigl found it “a little embarrassing” and saw “big problems without the ball”, and Christoph Kramer could “understand the dissatisfaction of the fans”, and that was also felt by the team. It was a bitterly disappointing first 30 minutes for Borussia Mönchengladbach at the Signal Iduna Park. Being 4-0 down after half an hour does not happen every day. Farke complained that everything that they intended to do was missing. “The scale of the defeat is justified given our performance in the first half.” For the full update on the personnel, performers and problems for the Foals check out the lowdown on our next opponents.
Anyone wanting to read the key facts and stats before the game against Borussia should take a look at the new Werkself LIVE. The matchday magazine is available at the BayArena and the digital version is also available free of charge online. HERE is the e-paper.

The German Football Association (DFB) has appointed Daniel Siebert as the referee for today’s game. The 39-year-old has previously been in charge of 20 fixtures involving the Werkself (8 wins, 4 draws, 8 defeats). His assistants are Rafael Foltyn and Robert Wessel on the touchline and Dr. Matthias Jöllenbeck is the VAR official.
Bayer 04 requests everybody to arrive at the BayArena in good time to allow fans to get to their seats in time for kick-off and to avoid long queues at the turnstiles.

The Werkself need a win in their penultimate match of the season at RB Leipzig on Monday evening (18:00 CEST) to keep their hopes of third place alive until the final day. After Eintracht Frankfurt lost on Saturday, Roberto Pätzold's side can close the gap on their rivals to two points and leave it all to play for next Sunday.

Down to fifth from fourth place despite taking an early lead: in the head-to-head for a Champions League spot, Bayer 04 were 1-0 up at VfB Stuttgart with just a minute played thanks to an Aleix Garcia strike, but ultimately lost 3-1 (2-1) to the more determined hosts. It meant the Swabians leapfrogged the Werkself in the Bundesliga table on the penultimate matchday.

Today sees Bayer 04 go head-to-head with their next direct rivals in the race for Champions League qualification (kick-off 15:30 CEST). Opponents Stuttgart are currently fifth in the table, level on points with the Werkself but one place below them due to a three-goal inferior goal difference. The Black and Reds' record at Bad Cannstatt tells a clearer story: they've not lost at VfB for over 16 years. One important factor in securing what would be three crucial points away from home is Leverkusen's strength on the counter-attack. Whilst Stuttgart are also extremely dangerous going forward, they will be without their captain. Today’s matchday news.
