In his four years at Leverkusen, the 28-year-old striker has played 131 games. Alario has scored 51 goals and provided 16 assists to date. “Of course, we were aware of how valuable Lucas is to Bayer 04. But his very good season did attract interest from other clubs,” said sporting managing director Rudi Völler about the Argentinean who was involved in 19 goals in 33 games last term. “That is why we were very happy to be able to extend the contract.”
That view is shared by Simon Rolfes: “Lucas is a goal-getter to the core. You can always rely on him when you need him,” said the Bayer 04 sporting director. “We are well positioned for our ambitious targets with him and Patrik Schick as central strikers.”
Lucas Alario, who made his comeback to the Argentina team in 2019 and only missed out on the Copa América due to a thigh injury, is happy about the contract extension. “I’ve always said I feel really good here at Bayer 04. The setup at the club is very professional and we want to achieve a lot together. We’ve got a really good team for that. We want to compete in all three competitions this season.”

The Werkself finished the Bundesliga in sixth place, meaning they'll start the 2026/27 campaign in the Europa League. "But to talk negatively about everything now because of that would be wrong," stressed captain Robert Andrich following the final game, knowing that the past year at Bayer 04 was marked, more than almost any other, by the start of a new era and the courage to change – and in particular, the belief in a positive direction. Everyone was aware this process would need time. The first part of the 2025/26 season review.
