Swiss international Granit Xhaka has joined Bayer 04 for the 2023/24 season. The midfield strategist joined from top English club Arsenal, where he held a leadership role from 2016. Xhaka agreed a contract to 2028 at Leverkusen. "His footballing quality is well known. But above all, there are only a few players who can lead a team as convincingly as he can thanks to outstanding mentality and personality," said Simon Rolfes, sporting managing director at Bayer 04, in praise of the former Mönchengladbach player when he signed.
Bundesliga champions Bayer 04 have also dominated the division’s Team of the Season after football fans around the world named Jonathan Tah, Alejandro Grimaldo, Jeremie Frimpong, Granit Xhaka, Florian Wirtz and Victor Boniface in the Bundesliga’s best XI for 2023/24, in cooperation with EA Sports.
