Youth: U15s still not conceded – Special praise for U12s

Not just the two oldest youth teams at Bayer 04 have started the new season. The majority of younger year groups are also involved in competitive action.

The new season for the Black and Red U15s began two weeks ago. In the U15 Regional League West, the team coached by Markus Daun and Erdal Celik picked up six points in the first two matches. The wins against Schonneback (3-0) and at Viktoria Köln (4-0) were followed at the weekend by a 0-0 draw against VfB Waltrop at Kurtekotten. It's worth noting: The Leverkusen U15 team are not only unbeaten after three games but also have yet to concede – the only team in the league with that record.

"The match against Waltrop is very important for the development of the team. The lads had to keep calm and be disciplined in following tactical principles," explained Daun. The next league match for the U15s is at Wuppertaler SV on Saturday, 26 September (kick-off: 15.00 CET).

U12s with "probably the best game of the season"

While the Bayer 04 U14 and U13 sides won their league clashes (see below), the U12 team had a friendly against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim as there were no league matches at the weekend. The team coached by Pierre de Wit and Maximilian Straub narrowly lost 3-2 in three 30- minute sections. De Wit backed his team by saying it was "probably their best game this season" against good opposition from Hoffenheim.

RSC wins for U11s and U10s

The Leverkusen U11 side won twice at the weekend. A 16-2 victory in a friendly against Victoria Köln on Friday was followed two days later by a 5-0 victory against MSV Duisburg in the Reviersportcup. That means the squad coached by Sebastian Lang and Fritz Vosen have won all of the last three RSC clashes. "The lads have been very successful in attack and defence and were able to control the match for 60 minutes," said Lang. "It was only before the goal that there was somewhat of a lack of tempo and precision."

The Bayer 04 U10s have also won their RSC game. The home game against the Schalke youth team ended with a 3-2 victory. And one of the positive aspects for the Black and Reds was coming back from 2-1 down in the final third. Marvin Schmitz, together with Alexander Nuss, is responsible for the team: "It was a very intense game. The teams battling performance and attitude is definitely worth the praise. In the end the opponents were more tired than others so that we were able to score the winner just before the end."

Youth team results:

Bayer 04 U19 v Borussia Mönchengladbach 0-1 (L)
Fortuna Köln v Bayer 04 U17 2-2 (L)
Bayer 04 U15 v VfB Waltrop 0-0 (L)

Werkself Review #OLYB04: 'The first step is done'

It took exactly 60 minutes for the Werkself to take the lead through a perfectly finished counter-attack by Patrik Schick in the first leg of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League play-off at Olympiacos. Referring to the meeting in the league phase and the initially squandered opportunities, coach Kasper Hjulmand said afterwards: "I thought: 'Oh no, déjà-vu.'" But after the opening goal, it took just 144 seconds for the Czech to spark more wild celebrations among those in black and red in the Greek cauldron, when Schick nodded in Alejandro Grimaldo's corner. Much to the delight of the Bayer 04 fans, his teammates and his coach, who had warm words for the striker in the aftermath. The Werkself Review.

Bayer 04 and Olympiacos had only met twice before the current UEFA Champions campaign. After the encounter on Matchday 7 of this season’s league phase, the Werkself travel to face the Greek side for the second time in just four weeks for the knockout play-off first leg.
