Nations League and U23s: Six Leverkusen players on international duty

While most of the players from the Bayer 04 Women's Bundesliga squad are enjoying their summer break, four players are again away on international duty. Three of them are in action in the UEFA Women's Nations League and three are away with Germany junior teams.
Julia Mickenhagen und Cornelia Kramer

Lilla Turanyi and Hungary need two wins from the remaining two matches in League B, Group 3 in Serbia on Friday and against Belarus next Tuesday to be in with a chance in the promotion play-offs in League A. The central defender and her team have three points from four games. The position looks better for Cornelia Kramer: On six points, Denmark are equal third with Italy in League A, Group 4 and just two behind the group leaders Sweden. If Denmark win the games against Wales and Sweden then they could go through to the semi-finals.

Karolina Lea Vilhjalmsdottir und Selina Ostermeier

For Karolina Lea Vilhjalmsdottir, who will not play for Bayer 04 next season after two years on loan, it is all about Iceland staying in League A, Group 2. Currently on three points, if the team comes out on top in the games against Norway and France they would finish second and be certain of staying in League A but finishing third would put Iceland in the play-offs against a second-placed team from League B, and ending up fourth would mean relegation to League B.

Julia Mickenhagen has two friendlies against the USA with the Germany U23 team. The team led by coach Kathrin Peter play in Großaspach on Friday and that is followed by the second match on Monday in Pforzheim. After just failing to qualify for the Euro finals, the Germany U19 squad will meet up at the DFB Campus in Frankfurt am Main for a training course with two friendlies on the agenda. Estrella Merino Gonzalez and Delice Boboy, who will play for RB Leipzig next season, are in a 24-person squad for games against England and France. Ida Daedelow is on standby.

Matchday news #VfBB04: Taking the next big step with the full weight of our fans behind us

Today sees Bayer 04 go head-to-head with their next direct rivals in the race for Champions League qualification (kick-off 15:30 CEST). Opponents Stuttgart are currently fifth in the table, level on points with the Werkself but one place below them due to a three-goal inferior goal difference. The Black and Reds' record at Bad Cannstatt tells a clearer story: they've not lost at VfB for over 16 years. One important factor in securing what would be three crucial points away from home is Leverkusen's strength on the counter-attack. Whilst Stuttgart are also extremely dangerous going forward, they will be without their captain. Today’s matchday news.

Our next opponents: VfB still have their fate in their own hands

It's a thrilling situation: as the season draws to a close, Stuttgart and Bayer 04 are heading into the home stretch almost neck and neck. After 32 games, with 17 wins, seven draws and eight defeats each, both teams are on 58 points. Even in terms of goals scored, VfB and the Werkself are level on 66. The Black and Reds have conceded just three fewer goals (43) than their rivals (46), which is why they sit one place behind fourth-placed Leverkusen. This Saturday, 9 May (kick-off: 15.30 CEST), the two teams go head to head at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart. The lowdown on our next opponents.
