"She can play on both wings and also brings a lot of tactical flexibility in defence but also in attack," said Achim Feifel, Bayer 04 Women's team sporting director: "She has been able to collect a lot of experience in Europe at clubs in Portugal and Scotland although she is still a young player."
Shen, who comes from the Chinese coastal province of Jiangsu, secured the Scottish Women's Premier League title for the first time in May after winning the Women’s Scottish Cup the previous season. She scored four goals and provided five assists in 27 games. Shen moved to Europe at the age of 19 and first played for Sporting CP and Atletico Ouriense in Portugal. The transfer to Celtic came in 2022. She made her full international debut for China against Thailand last October.
"Leverkusen are a big name in football with a great history and great fans. I'd like to enjoy top football here," said Shen: "I've played in several countries. I want to show my quality at Leverkusen and help the team to score lots of goals."
