Lucas Vázquez on…
…his first impressions and the reasons for his move to Bayer 04: I'm very happy to be here and grateful for the warm reception. I want to fit in with the team as best as I can and I'm very motivated to soon be on the pitch with my teammates. The conversations were very good from the start and became more and more concrete with time. I was told how important I'll be here, that the team has a lot of young and talented players who experienced players like me can help.
…the attraction of the Bundesliga and German football: I've loved football since I was young and I've always watched all European leagues. When my time in Madrid ended I knew I'd like to continue playing at a high level. I was open to lots of options and now I’ve chosen a very good one. The Bundesliga is physically more demanding than the Spanish league. The atmosphere at German stadiums is always great and I’m looking forward to playing in front of our fans. I'd like to enjoy everything about German football!
…conversations with Xabi Alonso, Toni Kross and Dani Carvajal: They told me a lot of positive things about Bayer 04, advised me to make the move and said that the atmosphere at the club is very friendly. Therefore, it was an option I definitely wanted to take advantage of. What I've seen so far definitely confirms those thoughts. Everybody's told me how great it is to live here, that it's a good place for me and my family and that the people here are very respectful. Therefore, I'm already looking forward to getting to know the German culture. I think it will be a great adventure here in Germany!
…his favourite position and current form: I've played in different positions in my career and I've always been able to adjust very well. I most prefer playing on the wing but at the end of the day I’ll play wherever I’m needed. I'm in good shape and I'll give my all.
…the make-up of the squad and his targets with Bayer 04: There are always lots of changes in football. Players and coaches come and go. The most important thing is for us to build a new team. It's always difficult to get started but confidence will grow and grow with wins. We will achieve our targets. I'd like to help the team as best as possible so that we have a good season in all competitions. Trophies and an attractive style of football are obviously always the target. We always worked very closely together at Real Madrid and that was a reason for success. If we all pull together as a team here at Bayer 04 and move in the same direction then we will achieve a lot.
