Match: The U19s had the upper hand against a physical opponent and upped the pressure late on in the second half. The winner came on 80 minutes when Niklas Determann tried his luck from 20 yards out as he aimed for the top corner. The ball was deflected by the Bielefeld defence and ended up going in at the near post with the goalkeeper moving the wrong way.
Assessment: After defeat in the first game of the season against Mönchengladbach, the U19s secured their first win on matchday two and kept a clean sheet.
Next up: The Bayer 04 U19s now have two home games in succession. First, the Leverkusen youth team entertain neighbours FC Köln in the first round of the DFB Youth Cup on Saturday, 3 October – probably at the Ulrich Haberland Stadium (further information to follow on bayer04.de). The next home opponents after the international break are Rot-Weiß Oberhausen on 18 October.
