While the U15 team won their game at home to RWE 2:0 and remain unbeaten in second place behind Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Regional League West, the U14s clocked up a 5-0 win at home to Essen. “The lads have carried on from their focussed performance in the game at Köln (4-1, ed.),” said Mirko Casper, who is in charge of the U14 youth team alongside Florian Blaschyk. This age group also remain unbeaten in their four matches to date –and have yet to drop a point.
The Leverkusen U13s, coached by Benjamin Adam and Marco Walter, also won their league fixture on the road at Essen (6-3) as did the U12 team. The latter got off to a good start: After just five minutes, the Black and Reds were 2-0 up. “The lads succeeded early on in breaking through the high pressing line of the opponents,” said Maximilian Straub, who is the co-coach of the U12s with Pierre De Wit. They took a 4-0 lead into half-time. Over the course of the 70 minutes, the U12s played some combination play that produced some good goalscoring opportunities. Straub: “It was fun to watch the lads.”
The Bayer 04 U10s were also in action at the weekend. In the 5-4 home defeat against VfL Bochum in the Reviersport Cup “we often broke through to the opposition goal with the ball on the deck in quick passing moves,” explained Alexander Nuss, co-coach with Marvin Schmitz with the Leverkusen U10s. The duo are pleased with the developments on the pitch even at this early stage of the season. We want to build on this progress. The next outing for the team is a friendly at Bayer Wuppertal on Sunday, 11 October (kick-off: 10.00 CEST).
The Werkself U9s also have a friendly in Koblenz. The opponents in four 20-minute sections are Eintracht Frankfurt. Playing against a physically strong Hesse team, Leverkusen were “incredibly combative. We were always in a position to double up on the opposition and win the ball,” said Tobias Greuel who coaches the U9s alongside Dimitri Teschner.
