Ann-Kathrin Vinken joined Bayer 04 for the 2018/19 season and went on to make 49 appearances for the Leverkusen Women’s team. Since the end of last season, after Vinken played 13 times, the 21-year-old has been struggling with a torn ankle ligament and will probably join the Women’s pre-season later on. “I’m very happy to be able to take the next steps with the team. We showed what we can do last season. The challenge now is to do that again in the coming season,” said Vinken.
Joyce Prabel said, “thanks to our great team and lots of passion in training last season, I have been able develop and extend my skills.” The 18-year-old made the step-up to the Bayer 04 Women’s team from the club’s U17s. The talented keeper is on course to start her eighth season at Leverkusen.
The Werkself are parting company with goalkeeper Anna Wellmann at the end of her contract. The 26-year-old, who joined the Bayer 04 Women from the Bayern Munich Reserves in the winter of the 2018/19 season, has opted to take the next step in her career by joining league rivals Turbine Potsdam.
“We thank Anna for her absolute commitment to Bayer 04 Leverkusen over the last two and a half years,” said Linda Schöttler, general manager of women’s football at Bayer 04. “We can fully understand her desire to take on a new challenge and get more time on the pitch and we want to support that. We wish Anna all the best from both sporting and personal perspectives.”

It took exactly 60 minutes for the Werkself to take the lead through a perfectly finished counter-attack by Patrik Schick in the first leg of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League play-off at Olympiacos. Referring to the meeting in the league phase and the initially squandered opportunities, coach Kasper Hjulmand said afterwards: "I thought: 'Oh no, déjà-vu.'" But after the opening goal, it took just 144 seconds for the Czech to spark more wild celebrations among those in black and red in the Greek cauldron, when Schick nodded in Alejandro Grimaldo's corner. Much to the delight of the Bayer 04 fans, his teammates and his coach, who had warm words for the striker in the aftermath. The Werkself Review.
