Matches involving Bayer 04 players during this international break are straightforward. Sylwia Matysik is the only one of the Werkself Women set to play two games for her national team: Poland play Azerbaijan on Friday 23 October and that is followed four days later by the game against Moldova. Points are at stake in both matches in Group D of the qualifiers for the European Championship. Poland are currently third on eight points behind Spain and the Czech Republic on ten points.
Hungary are also involved in Euro qualifiers with Henrietta Csiszár, Lilla Turanyi and Dóra Zeller in the squad. Slovakia are the visitors in Budapest on 23 October. In the same Group F, Sandra Maria Jessen is set to play for Iceland against Sweden on Tuesday 27 October. Iceland are currently second in the table on 13 points behind Sweden (13); Hungary come next on seven points.
Lara Marti is on standby for Switzerland. The leaders of Group H play Romania on 27 October.
Juliane Wirtz has been called up to the Germany U20 squad. Originally, a course was planned in Freiburg from 18/19 to 27 October with two internationals against France included. The friendlies have been postponed due to current developments in the coronavirus pandemic and the course reduced by three days.

Bayer 04 and Olympiacos had only met twice before the current UEFA Champions campaign. After the encounter on Matchday 7 of this season’s league phase, the Werkself travel to face the Greek side for the second time in just four weeks for the knockout play-off first leg. The Black and Reds were dominant for large spells in mid-January but lost 2-0 after missing a number of presentable chances. The Werkself aim to do better on Wednesday night to “seize the chance for revenge,” as managing director sport Simon Rolfes put it. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the game in our matchday news.
